Services We Provide
The Kern County Fire Department is proud to provide a high level of
emergency services to the residents and visitors of Kern County. Kern is
the 3rd largest county in the state of California and covers a wide
variety of climates and conditions. The area we protect varies from
rural to metropolitan but also covers large portions of wildland and
Wildland/Urban Interface areas.

There are eleven incorporated cities within the county: Bakersfield,
Delano, California-City, Tehachapi, Shafter, Wasco, Maricopa, McFarland,
Delano, Taft, and Arvin. The Kern County Fire Department provides
protection for all of them except Bakersfield, and California-City. The
joint Kern County/Bakersfield City Dispatching facility, ECC, provides
dispatch and emergency communications for the unincorporated Kern. Major
industries in the county include several oil refineries, some of the
largest oil production fields in the Unites States, agribusiness, and
manufacturing and distribution centers for several large companies.

The Kern County Fire Department staffs 46 full time fire stations. The
fire department is broken into 6 Battalions for operational management.
Each Battalion covers a large geographical area and includes seven to
nine fire stations.

Battalion 3 is located in the northwestern portion of Kern County. The
Battalion includes eight fire stations covering the areas of Glenville,
Woody, Lost Hills, Shafter, Wasco, McFarland, and Delano. The battalion
is bordered from the coast range on the battalion's west side to the
Sierra Nevada mountains on its east side.
